Witness statements play a crucial role in understanding a range of matters, investigations and also in legal proceedings.

They provide an individual’s account of events, often capturing details that may not be obtainable otherwise.

Here's why they matter:

  • Objective View: Witness statements offer a perspective on an event such as accidents or incidents.
  • Evidence Clarity: Putting facts in writing helps individuals record their experience of an event and also assists investigators, lawyers, courts and other parties interpret all the evidence.
  • Claim Determination: Witness statements assist in understanding claims and then in turn resolving and hearing claims.

CFA Legal has prepared a presentation outlining the process and considerations when preparing a witness statement.  More information can be found in the CFA Legal FAQs.

CFA Legal provides witness support to members who have received a subpoena, summons or request for a witness statement.
