International visitors tour VEMTC Central Highlands
CFA’s VEMTC Central Highlands training centre in Ballan recently welcomed a group from Hunan Vocational Institute of Safety Technology, a vocational college based in Changsa, China.
On Thursday 27 November, the group toured as part of their Australian study program, gaining firsthand insight into the state-of-the-art emergency management training facility.
The purpose of the visit was to learn more about Australia’s emergency management systems.
Associate Professor and Senior Engineer Cheng Aibao from the Institute described the tour as engaging, practical and thought-provoking.
“VEMTC has been the most rewarding stop of our visit to Australia,” Cheng said.
“The tour and exchange have been truly inspiring and highly rewarding.
“We greatly admire the spirit of innovation, volunteering and dedication and extend our sincere appreciation for CFA’s thoughtful arrangements and warm hospitality.
“Through this cross-border engagement, we hope to further promote technical exchange and jointly explore more efficient and people-oriented models for disaster prevention and mitigation.”
Assistant Chief Fire Officer David Maxwell delivered the tour of the grounds and said it was a great opportunity to showcase the facilities.
“It was rewarding to see how our facility and practices could inspire improvements internationally,” David said.
“The energy among the group was very positive and it was great to see their surprised yet pleased reaction to volunteerism, an entirely new concept for their institute.”
