This International Men’s Day (IMD), CFA is proud to recognise and celebrate the positive contributions men make to our organisation, our communities and to each other.

Held annually on 19 November, International Men’s Day encourages us to focus on men’s wellbeing, promote positive role models, and support men and boys to lead fulfilling, safe and connected lives.

The 2025 theme, "Supporting Men and Boys", is a call to action to champion those making a difference - and to personally support the men and boys in our lives.

“Our men volunteers make invaluable contributions to CFA and their communities.  “They play a vital role not only on the fireground and in both operational and non-operational roles but also in support roles and as leaders and mentors,” Robyn Harris, Group General Manager Strategic Services and CFA’s IMD executive sponsor said.

“International Men’s Day is a time to celebrate these contributions and to reflect on the unique challenges men may face.

“It’s a time to celebrate the diversity, strength and mateship that is at the heart of CFA volunteering. Importantly this day is for everyone - not just men - to consider how we build supportive environments where men feel respected and valued.”

Ways to get involved in International Men’s Day

Whether you’re on the fireground, in the office or working behind the scenes, there are simple and meaningful ways to mark the day:

Start a conversation

Use IMD as an opportunity to talk openly about gender roles, inclusivity and how we support one another at CFA.  Think about: What does positive masculinity look like in your team or brigade?

Check in with a mate

Encourage genuine conversations between men. Break the stigma around mental health.  Just five minutes can make a real difference.

Try a “Walk and Talk” - choose a safe, accessible walking route (with rest stops or a coffee stop) and invite a colleague, friend or fellow volunteer. You might talk about a meaningful topic or simply enjoy each other’s company.

Share stories of impact

Who’s inspired you this year?  Celebrate the men in your teams who go above and beyond - as volunteers, colleagues, mentors, and mates.

Check in on your health

  • Men often face challenges with their health but may not always seek help or listen to the early signs
  • Get active – access other Health Services resources on Members Online

Reach out for support

Three out of four suicides in Australia are men. You are not alone - early support can make a difference. For support with mental health, members are encouraged to contact the CFA Member Support Line on 1800 959 232 to access a range of free and confidential support and counselling services including the Member Assistance Program and CFA Peers. Other external support services available include Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 and Lifeline on 13 11 14.

A range of self-led resources and support options are also available via The Wellbeing Hub.

Bring people together at your CFA location

Host a morning or afternoon tea with a guest speaker or organise a team building activity at your brigade or work location. Use the time to celebrate the individuals making an extraordinary impact in your brigade or workplace.

Let’s use IMD 2025 to celebrate, connect and continue growing stronger together.
