The Volunteer Driving Training Project continues to offer support to members to obtain their heavy rigid or medium rigid Heavy Vehicle Licence.

Take advantage of the opportunity to gain new skills driving skills prior to the project closing on June 2026.

Members interested in supporting operational response as drivers can nominate through the Learning Hub.

DCO Operational Doctrine and Training Rohan Luke said once approved to complete the training by their captain or supervisor, members could book in with one of CFA’s partner providers straight away.

“We understand that some members like to get early driving experience in a brigade truck before booking their licence training,” Rohan said.

“However, please be assured that this isn’t needed - our accredited training will teach you everything you need, using the techniques assessed in the licence test.

“You can feel confident starting fresh with the official training and then continue to hone your skills with your brigade.”

How to apply

  • Approval: Your supervisor or district will approve your EOI.

Note for districts: Please ensure EOIs are processed in LMS as soon as possible so that members can proceed with their training bookings without delay.

After obtaining your licence

  • Brigade administrators with the appropriate permission levels can update this information on a member's behalf.
  • All driver licence data is stored in an encrypted format to maintain security and privacy.
