Family Fun Days at Morwell Fire Brigade

Morwell Fire Brigade - Family Fun Day Morwell Fire Brigade - Family Fun Day

In the September school holidays, Morwell Fire Brigade ran two Family Fun Days for members of their community to come down and have some fun at the station.

The brigade provided colouring in sheets, mini fire truck races, hose bowling competitions, a visit from Captain Koala, and the kids even checked out the brigade’s new tanker.

What surprised brigade members the most was that it wasn’t always parents bringing their kids to visit the station, but more often than not it was grandparents. Grandparents were trying to find fun, cheap, engaging ideas to do during school holidays and Morwell Fire Station provided a dry, undercover, safe place for kids to learn and have fun. There was such a positive response that most people came on days.

The brigade wanted to try new ways to engage the community and have found that hosting a day or two during school holidays provides an opportunity for the community to learn about CFA and provide that interaction for recruitment.

Posters and social media posts were designed and emailed or hand-delivered to local day care centers, schools, community sports groups and local community hubs such as gyms and leisure centers.

Through providing these days to the community, the brigade recruited new members. Morwell has recruited more than 20 new members this year with a handful of members currently going through the Volunteer Recruitment process.

Thank you to all the members who were involved in making these Family Fun Days a success and well done Morwell Fire Brigade on these creative and engaging opportunities.
