Women firefighters from CFA brigades across west Gippsland have taken part in a dedicated driving experience day at Noojee.

Held on Saturday 3 October, the training day was designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for women to learn, practise and develop their driving skills as well as build confidence behind the wheel of CFA trucks.

In addition to driving trucks across a range of road types and conditions, participants also got to try out one of CFA’s new driving simulators.

Using the driving simulator

Noojee brigade’s Training Officer Vicky Booth, who organised the training day, said creating opportunities for women to develop their driving skills was important.

“One of my favourite sayings is, ‘If you can’t see it, choose to be it.’ That was the inspiration behind organising the day,” Vicky said.

“Despite the rain, the group was incredibly positive and excited to be involved.

“Both out on the road and using the simulator, they gained valuable experience - and importantly - built their confidence in driving different CFA appliances.

“It was a great opportunity for participants to develop their skills in a supportive environment while gaining practical experience that will help build capability within their brigades.”
