Safe Work Month - Tori Briggs
As part of National Safe Work Month, we are featuring members of CFA’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing team.
To start things off, get to know Tori Briggs, CFA’s Manager, Claims and Injury Management.
Can you tell us a little bit about your role and what it involves?
I’m an occupational therapist by background and currently work at CFA as the Manager, Claims and Injury Management.
My role is to oversee the management of injury and compensation claims for both employees and volunteers. At its core, the role is about ensuring people who are injured in connection with their CFA service receive the support, treatment and guidance they need throughout their recovery.
This includes working with injured members, managers, treating health professionals and claims agents to facilitate recovery, identify suitable duties and develop graduated return-to-work plans that help people safely and sustainably return to their usual roles and activities.
What do you love most about it?
The most rewarding part of my role is helping people recover and return to the things they love, whether that’s their work, volunteering, family activities or other important parts of their lives.
Being able to support someone through a challenging time, see them progress through their recovery and successfully return through suitable duties and graduated return-to-work plans is incredibly fulfilling.
I find it particularly rewarding when members tell us that we made a positive difference to their experience. Navigating an injury can be stressful and uncertain, so hearing that someone felt supported, listened to and cared for reinforces the value of the work we do every day.
If every CFA member took away one thing from National Safe Work Month, what would you want it to be?
Take the time to stop and think before acting. Rushing or taking shortcuts can have lasting consequences, both for yourself and those around you.
If everyone considered the potential impact of unsafe behaviours and made safety their first priority, we could prevent many injuries.
In an ideal world, no one at CFA would ever need the support of the Injury Recovery and Support Services team because injuries would be prevented in the first place.
