On Sunday 13 November Whittlesea Diamond Valley Group held another Strike Team Leaders Forum at Whittlesea Fire Station.

This is a significant event in the calendar that has been going for some time, though it was postponed for a couple of years because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Members participated face-to-face as well as remotely by video link.

The Forum was opened by Group Officer Peter Bury. ACFO Tim Holland then explained the Chief officer's expectations, the seasonal forecast and strike team considerations when operating in the rural-urban interface.

Neville Goddard and Jo Cox then gave a presentation about the capabilities of peers in the context of strike teams.

Commander Peter Spicer spoke about the role of the strike team leader, including some valuable tips and suggestions.

Doreen Fire Brigade Captain Robert Bury presented his perspective as a strike team leader following his deployment to the floods at Rochester.

After lunch, Anakie  Group Officer Barry Plumber provided an insight into the structure and training used to select and endorse strike team leaders in the Anakie Group.

Then there was a general discussion led by GO Peter Bury, DGO Adrian Marshman and DGO Scott Allen on various topics including fatigue, Red Flag warmings and assembly points.

DGO Marshman then provided an update about the strike team leaders pack, which is an initiative of the Whittlesea Diamond Valley Group. This pack is provided on a USB flash drive, such is the volume of information available for use in the field.

GO Bury closed the day with thanks to all those who presented and attended.

It was an interesting, informative and stimulating day.
