Walks and talks on country

The past few months have been an enriching experience for CFA members learning more about the Aboriginal history, present and future on the land we live, work, play and respond to incidents within.

Each year members from CFA's South West Region engage with Gunditj Mirring, Eastern Maar and Wadawurrung people to create opportunities for CFA members to go out on country and learn more about local Aboriginal culture.

We learn of local dreaming, learn to recognise artefacts and learn about the traditional culture and current projects. We have discussions about fire from burning for cultural outcomes and how we as CFA members can best protect and preserve cultural heritage.

Community, country, artefacts, along with dreaming, are the remaining evidence of the ways First Nations people lived and prospered here in the past by using a wealth of knowledge gained and refined over centuries upon centuries of caring for people and country through highly sophisticated land management practices implemented with an in-depth knowledge of land and country.

Community caring for one another, building strong connections, managing land, and using fire and are just some of the ever-evolving ways First Nations people will continue to thrive here today. Caring for people and country, protecting lives and property.
