Training weekends for 16 and 17-year-old members
Expressions of interest close soon for two fun-filled activity weekends for 16 and 17-year-olds, organised through the Cadet Pilot Program.
Our young members can choose to attend one of the two weekends, taking place in May at Ballan and June at Sale. The weekends will begin at our VEMTC campuses, where participants will get the chance to take part in live fire training.
Program Coordinator Trent John said that these weekends will be a great opportunity for our young members to get hands-on experience.
“The training weekends will give our 16 and 17-year-old members the chance to undertake training at our state-of-the-art facilities,” he said.
“The weekends will be jam-packed full of activities, and our young members will really benefit from attending. They’ll get the chance to experience some of the best activities CFA has to offer, and meet other young members from across the state.”
The weekend will also involve basic skills training, and all members in the age group are able to attend regardless of whether they have completed their General Firefighter training.
Over the weekend, participants will also get the opportunity to take part in other activities such as Digital VR, archery and team building.
As well as these action-packed weekends, all 16 and 17-year-old members should have access to the online modules focusing on wellbeing, CFA pathways and firefighting doctrine. The uptake of the modules has been well accepted, with Cadets stating they have been useful in providing information and training that can then be implemented within local brigade activities.
Places are limited. For more information on the weekends, or to express interest, please visit members online or email cadets@cfa.vic.gov.au.
Expressions of interest for the Central Highlands weekend close on 22 April and expressions of interest for the Sale weekend will close on 1 May. All accommodation, meals and transport assistance are supplied for the weekend.
