Virtual Walkthrough - Warragul Hazmat POD
Warragul Hazmat POD - virtual walkthrough tour
In recent months Warragul Fire Brigade has been busy creating a visual walkthrough to demonstrate the capability of the brigade's hazardous materials response module.
The result is the Warragul Hazmat POD Virtual Walkthrough Tour.
Warragul Fire Brigade has provided a hazmat response capability in District 9 since 1994. Initially, this response was provided with the brigade-owned hazmat, a Mitsubishi crew cab with a rescue style body. This vehicle was decomissioned in December 2018 and replaced with the current Hino FM2630 cab chassis with a Hiab Multilift Hooklift and detachable hazmat pod.
At the time the hazmat replacment comittee investigated a number of alternative options including small pods, large containers, enclosed box and commercial vans. However, it was decided due to the bulky nature of hazmat equipment that a container-style pod mounted on a hooklift cab chassis offered both the greatest amount of space and allowed for better ergonomics when loading/unloding at ground level.
The brigade facilitated discussions with CFA managament at the time to secure and re-purpose one of the three original Hino Hooklift cab chassis, originally allocated for the technical rescue pods. The brigade, with the assistance of the local community, funded the build-up and stowage of the hazmat pod.
The appliance provides a hazmat support role and replaces Warragul Hazmat in the CAD response tables. The vehicle has been equiped with a range of modern equipment to combat and mitigate small to medium scale hazardous materials incidents and perform fire services decontamination activities.
Some of the equipment is consistent with what is found on the specialist FRV Hazmat appliances to aid in interoperability. Alternativel,y the appliance is capable of filling a BA support and/or generalist support role at large-scale structural incidents.
There are no current plans to build any additional pods.
Take the virtual tour and let us know what you think.
