Time to shine: Nominations open for Australian Fire Service Medal
CFA members across Victoria are being called on to recognise the outstanding individuals among them as nominations open for the 2026 King's Birthday Honours.
This is your chance to nominate someone who goes above and beyond for the prestigious Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM).
The AFSM is Australia’s highest honour for fire service personnel, celebrating dedication, commitment and distinguished service that often spans decades. In the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours lists, four CFA members were acknowledged with AFSMs for their exceptional contributions. Now it’s time to ask: who do you know that deserves the same recognition?
From volunteers who’ve been on the frontline under extreme conditions, to those who mentor, train and uplift the next generation, the AFSM recognises both frontline service and operational leadership.
“This is more than an award; it’s a chance to tell someone their contribution hasn’t gone unnoticed,” Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said.
“We know our people don’t seek the spotlight. But nominating them can be a powerful moment for them, their brigade and their community.”
Let’s honour those who protect lives and property day in and day out. Nominate someone extraordinary today.
Members can be considered for an AFSM if they have:
- Significant frontline experience with prolonged exposure to hazard;
- Commitment to training or educating others using their frontline experience; and
- Made a significant, distinguished or outstanding contribution to CFA and more broadly.
