Staff profile: Meet Leigh Allan
Leigh Allan is the Commander for State Driving in the Operational Doctrine and Training team.
What is your favourite aspect of working in your team?
The dynamic environment that State Driving is currently working through. New training programs, courses and working with other departments.
What’s the most interesting project you've worked on at CFA?
The development of the simulator program in conjunction with the Project Team. The ability to have a simulator that not only assists our CFA members in Driving simulations, but also the variety of scenarios that CFA face.
What’s a hobby or interest you have that might surprise your colleagues?
An interest that surprises me is collecting old items that remind me of growing up at my Nan's place. The small axe that my grandfather would allow me to chop wood while he had a smoke away from Nan. The old cooking trays that Nan cooked the Sunday roast on and the old ivory knife she used to carve with. It is something that only I would find an interest, but brings back a lot of happy memories.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Ireland. Travelled this beautiful part of the world in an old Toyota and the people are just fantastic. They welcomed me into their environment and even played a game of Gaelic football. I kept forgetting that I couldn’t tackle.
The scenery was breathtaking, and I’d go back tomorrow.
What’s your favourite way to unwind after a long day at work?
I enjoy being outside with the dogs and pottering around the backyard. My dogs make me smile and give me endless love. No matter how your day was, they are so happy to see you.
