Staff profile: Meet Daniel Hodge
Daniel Hodge is a Structural Instructor and Station Officer in District 8.
What is your favourite aspect of working in your team?
As a Structural Instructor I get to work in a variety of teams including the District 8 Training team, South East regional team, VEMTC PAD operators and with CFA volunteers on the training ground. My favourite aspects of my job are meeting new people, delivering practical training and sharing good times with my fellow instructors.
What’s the most interesting project you've worked on at CFA?
As a Structural Instructor I have had the privilege of working on several projects supporting OD&T with the design and development of training courses. This project work has enabled me to visit a diverse range of urban and rural brigades providing the opportunity to meet new people and operate different CFA trucks and equipment. My most interesting project was contributing to the current Respond to Urban Fire training package.
What’s a hobby or interest you have that might surprise your colleagues?
A hobby that interests me is coaching my son in the under 8s soccer team representing Langwarrin Soccer Club. I coach three sessions a week with a group of nine kids, which provides me with many laugh and joy. It's rewarding to see their development across the season. Recently our team participated in the super league and academy tournament in Broadmeadows which we were lucky enough to win.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would travel to Alexandra Palace, London in December to attend the World Darts Championships. It’s a combination of sports and partying with a festive atmosphere and elaborate costumes. I would take the family along to enjoy a white Christmas, visit family and friends and catch a soccer match too!
What’s your favourite way to unwind after a long day at work?
My favourite way to unwind is playing a round of golf. I really enjoy all aspects of the game including the challenging nature of the sport, social aspects and taking in the natural beauty of the course. I needed a second ball on the 18th tee on the windy day the photo above was taken at Cape Wickham Golf Course.
