If you are planning a summer community event in your brigade, such as a Santa Run or fundraising activity, it is essential to ensure that children and young people are safe and welcome at your event.

CFA has provided helpful guidelines to assist you in planning and delivering a safe, inclusive, and successful event.

These guidelines will help you to:

  • use operational appliances and equipment safely and responsibly (for example, never direct fire hoses or other firefighting equipment toward children or community members, as this could pose a risk of physical injury or distress)
  • obtain approval for your event and identify any potential risks (complete a risk assessment)
  • make your event inclusive and respectful of diversity
  • complete the child safety training module and obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • select a suitable CFA member to play Santa or Captain Koala.

You can access the guidelines on Members Online. For questions or further information, email childsafetyofficer@cfa.vic.gov.au
