The quarterly dinner gatherings of the 17 captains from Nillumbik and Whittlesea Diamond Valley groups are proving to be a valuable and enjoyable experience.

The informal setting allows for open discussion about their roles as captains, and is a platform for asking questions, sharing advice and resolving challenges.

The meetings are held in a rotating list of venues including Diamond Creek, Doreen and Arthurs Creek. The group is already looking forward to the upcoming bushfire scenario tutorial scheduled to take place in November at Arthurs Creek.

These gatherings not only promote camaraderie but also provide opportunities for practical training and learning from shared experiences. One notable aspect that emerged from these meetings was the realisation that many of the challenges faced by the captains were remarkably similar.

The diversity of knowledge and life experiences within the group allows for a broad range of perspectives and insights. This diversity proves invaluable when looking for innovative solutions to the challenges at hand, both within CFA and beyond.

Besides the obvious benefits of learning from one another, these gatherings have allowed the captains to develop strong relationships with their counterparts from surrounding brigades. This interconnectedness fosters a strong sense of community and support, knowing that assistance will one day be sought and received from these very same colleagues.

As the evening unfolds over dinner, the discussions are lively and engaging. The captains delve into various topics, from effective leadership strategies to response protocols during emergencies. The knowledge shared among the group is not limited to CFA-related matters, but extends to lessons drawn from broader life experiences.

The inherent synergy and collaboration within the group sparks numerous innovative ideas for future training initiatives and strategies to improve the overall firefighting efforts in the area. These informal discussions have proven their worth time and time again, leaving all participants feeling invigorated and motivated to create positive change within their communities and brigades.

Overall, the Captains' Dinner is a forum that fosters friendship, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among passionate leaders dedicated to serving their communities.
