Volunteers can find out more about CFA’s Training Pathways at this weekend’s State Championships in Mooroopna.

Training team members will be on hand to share information about the pathways and answer any questions about undertaking additional training and development at CFA.

Volunteers not attending this weekend’s event can explore the pathways and find out more here.

Released in 2024 following significant consultation, the Training Pathways are designed to provide members with clear guidance on their training and skills development at CFA.

With all CFA training aligned to a training pathway, volunteers can easily see their training progression and the courses they need to complete to perform a desired role, via a visual map.

In addition to practical, role-specific training, each pathway includes soft skill development in areas like communication, leadership and teamwork to enhance the overall impact and outcomes for participants.

While some of the prerequisites for roles have changed with the introduction of the pathways, volunteers won’t be stopped from performing these roles as a result, with the option to undertake the course/training or complete a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application under the new streamlined RPL process

DCO Operational Doctrine and Training Rohan Luke said the pathways are designed to provide volunteers and brigades with greater clarity on training options and skills progression, helping them to make informed decisions about training.

“They aim to provide greater transparency for volunteers in understanding what is required to succeed in their CFA roles,” Rohan said.

“The pathways provide training options tailored to the operational needs of brigades, ensuring that the training is both accessible and relevant.

“By promoting these training opportunities, we aim to increase volunteer participation, satisfaction and long-term commitment by supporting them to develop personally and professionally within CFA and their brigade if they wish.

“They also provide clarity for prospective and new volunteers who may be motivated by the opportunity for ongoing development as well as staff wanting to train in specialised areas such as IMT support or airbase roles.”

Rohan said significant work was being done on the Learning Hub (LMS) to support the implementation of the Training Pathways.

“Our goal is to continuously develop and align training with the pathways to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the CFA and our volunteers,” Rohan said.

Brigades and Groups are encouraged to continue to work with their District Training Coordinators (CLDs) to schedule training based on risk and operational requirements as we move into the new year.

Members can nominate to undertake training by following the existing course Expression of Interest process through the Learning Hub
