CFA Training AFAC Peer Review

CFA is committed to implementing the recommendations from the AFAC Peer Review and improving the experience of training for volunteers.

We want CFA's training and capability development to meet the diverse needs of members and ensure members acquire the right knowledge and skills to serve our communities, regardless of role or location.

In 2021, CFA commissioned an AFAC Peer Review to identify areas for improvement and take a fresh look at training requirements in light of our transition to a fully volunteer firefighting organisation.

Fourteen recommendations were made by the review.

Initially through the great work of the AFAC Working Group members and now through the CFA Training Enhancement Program (TEP), we are documenting and tracking the progress on these recommendations on a quarterly basis. Progress to date includes:

  • the development of online training pathways to provide greater clarity on the training requirements for members as they progress through CFA
  • migrating all training documentation and records into the Learning Management System (Learning Hub) so that all training and assessment materials are housed on the same platform
  • a formal feedback system so members can share suggestions, report challenges, or highlight positive experiences
  • further support for our volunteer instructor group.

The review, list of recommendations and quarterly update are available on Members Online here.

The CFA Training Enhancement Program is a program of work consisting of 23 deliverables. To find out more about TEP, click here.
