CFA Health Services' end-of-year update
CFA Health Services would like to give members an update on achievements in 2024, and plans for 2025. This includes updates about health and medical programs, and upcoming closures.
CFA’s Health Services team has had a busy 2024 – with demand for member health programs at their highest level since pre-pandemic. Notably, Health Services staff are on track to conduct more than 1,000 member Heart Health Checks for the year. The brigade health program, ‘Health Watch’, is now booked out for the remainder of 2024. Brigades are encouraged to book for 2025 online or by contacting healthwatch@cfa.vic.gov.au.
2024 saw the launch of the Cardiovascular Risk Screening tool (CVRs) as an additional and optional component of member Heart Health Checks. More than 200 members have now participated in CVRs, providing them with new insights into their cardiovascular health and the opportunity to take steps to improve their overall health and reduce their risk of experiencing an adverse cardiovascular event, such as a heart attack.
In addition to the Heart Health Checks, brigade demand for group educational modules has also been strong, especially education about fatigue management.
Health Services recently undertook an evaluation of health resources provided to members and will be re-launching improved health modules in 2025. This will include new health modules on LMS and new health booklets provided to members.
In 2025 Health Services will be making it easier for Junior brigades to book ‘Fit Kidz’ sessions through the creation of an online booking system. In the meantime, Junior leaders are still encouraged to email healthwatch@cfa.vic.gov.au for all ‘Fit Kidz’ enquires, including to make a booking.
The Health Services team will be taking a small break over the Christmas/ New Year period. If you have an urgent enquiry during this time, please email Manager Health Services Nicole Taylor at n.taylor@cfa.vic.gov.au. For all other general enquiries regarding health programs you can contact healthservices@cfa.vic.gov.au.
For enquiries about medical programs (vaccinations, medical referrals, new applicant medicals) please contact healthsurveillance@cfa.vic.gov.au. We will respond to emails in the week commencing 6 January 2025.
More information about the programs and resources on offer to help you keep healthy during summer and beyond is available on the Health Services Members Online page.
