Bostocks Creek completes station upgrades
Bostocks Creek Fire Brigade in District 6 recently held a station opening following several renovations.
Two Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) grants allowed the brigade to extend the station, replace motor room doors, and provide change rooms and toilets.
South West Region Deputy Chief Officer Adrian Gutche attended the station to officially mark its completion.
At the station opening, service awards were given to Gary Alexander (25 years), John Fallon (25 years), and Lance Robilliard (45 years).
Jack Hutt (five years), Eddie Guthridge (15 years), Leon Clarke (30 years) also received service awards, but were not present at teh opening event.
The brigade currently has 30 members who are proud of the brigade and station. They raised funds through media requests, letters to the community, support from local businesses and other volunteer organisations, and by applying for a number of grants. They also held local barbecues and rattled tins at local events.
As well as raising enough money to renovate the station, the members also managed to raise enough funds to purchase an ultralight tanker. However, CFA approached the brigade and offered them an ultralight tanker that had been used as a demonstrator around the state. This meant the $50,000 raised for an ultralight was put towards the building extension project.
