Behind the cameras at volunteer forums

Audio dropped out, cords were unplugged and plugged in again, the single camera adjusted, the patience of the audience and panel members tested. The inaugural off-site CFA Volunteer Forum featured more gremlins that the Warner Bros theme park ride.

Three years on, the CFA Volunteer Forum is one of the jewels in the CFA communication crown.

Investment in versatile equipment, improved remote capabilities, flexible audio options, and experienced operators, are part of the returns that have enhanced the monthly Volunteer Forum into a key engagement platform with volunteers and staff.

The Forum has been hosted in every region 18 of the 21 districts, with one of those three to be ticked off next week when the January 2025 Forum broadcasts from District 10. (For those playing at home, it is Districts 4 and 12 remaining).

Regular host Chief Officer Jason Heffernan thoroughly enjoys each forum and enjoys visiting each brigade and district, where he is able to hear first-hand the experiences of members.

Managed by the Communications and Stakeholder Relations department, the forums continue to be successful thanks to the support of host brigades, regional and district leaders, and every one who volunteers their time to be on the panel and in the audience of each broadcast.

For information of when forums are on and where they will be (which is updated for each date once confirmed), visit Members Online.

To view volunteer forms each month and watch past forums, visit the CFA YouTube page.

If you have any topics or people/brigades you’d like to see featured at a volunteer forum, please email internalcomms@cfa.vic.gov.au.

We look forward to seeking at a future forum.
