Behaviour-Change Bootcamp underway
CFA Digital Library / https://digitallibrary.cfa.vic.gov.au
CFA's Community First team is working with Behaviour Works Australia at Monash University to help agencies improve the way they work with their communities.
About 30 people are currently participating in a Behaviour-Change Bootcamp, which uses an evidence based and tested behavioural science methodology to help agencies improve their approach to working with communities and partner agencies on bushfire management.
People from local government, Red Cross, Victorian Legal Aid, DEECA and CFA are participating in the three-month program, which includes workshops, webinars and ongoing support from trained facilitators.
Coming from a broad spectrum of emergency management, participants have worked in small, multi-agency teams to explore a challenge relevant to their work, including:
- Community behaviours in response to AFDRS ratings
- Intention versus action in community resilience behaviours
- Community reliance on agencies for direction prior to taking decisive action during high-risk days
- Vegetation management behaviours of communities and perception of risk
- Engaging with new residents and bushfire preparedness behaviours.
