Avoca Fire Brigade recently held a special night for its volunteers to recognise and thank them for their unwavering service.

Brigade members and families welcomed special guests to the dinner: newly-appointed District 16 AFCO Steve Alcock, - MP Member of Ripon Martha Haylett MP, Councillor Ripon Ward Rebecca Wardlaw and Steve Wardlaw.

The night was to thank the outgoing officers and welcome the incoming officers. The new brigade management team (BMT) will have a blend of seasoned volunteers and fresh faces. There is a good mix of people with experience and local knowledge.

Captain Nick Morrison said a few words as the new captain, thanking the brigade for the opportunity to be the new leader. Although Avoca brigade is opening a new chapter, the focus remains clear - honouring the service and wisdom of long-standing members while continuing to build a strong, united team for the future.

AFCO Steve Alcock installed the new BMT for the following two years:

Captain Nick Morrison.1st Lieutenant Anthony Gollop, 2nd Lieutenant Anthony Neil ,3rd Lieutenant Rod Porter, 4th Lieutenant Rhys Walkley, Secretary Ian Morrison, Brigade Chair Lloyd Gollop, Community Safety Officer Steve Cudmore, Fire Equipment Officer Ex Captain Brian Barepark.

Steve also thanked outgoing captain Aaron McHoul and Secretary Karen Barepark for the dedicated service over many years. Nick and Anthony made presentations to Aaron and Karen on behalf of the brigade to thank them for the service over several years.

Nick and Anthony also presented a certificate of appreciation to the Community Bank of Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud for a grant that allowed the brigade to purchase two new sets of breathing apparatus. These sets will be stored on Avoca Tanker 2.

Mr Jack Porter, who received the certificate of appreciation from the brigade, congratulated the brigade on its service to the community, and said the bank was proud to support the brigade.

Guest speaker for the evening was Steve Alcock, who spoke about his life before joining CFA and his time with CFA. He gave a great account of his trade and volunteering with Ballan Fire Brigade before joining CFA for a career. This gave members of the brigade a better understanding of Steve's commitment to the brigade and to District 16.

Nick Morrison formerly closed the dinner and thanked the caterers for an excellent meal and also thanked all who attended the dinner.
