Members from Hume Group have attended a joint training session with Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) to test interoperability for an incident at Melbourne Airport.
The exercise on Sunday 6 October provided the opportunity for members from Bulla, Wildwood, Sunbury and Greenvale to participate in a simulated response to an A380 engine fire on a live fire pad.
Members were also given the opportunity to attack the fire using the ARFF’s large tender – a specialised fire engine designed for use in aircraft firefighting.
Hume Group DGO Elvis Crook said the exercise was a great opportunity for CFA brigades to test their capability to support agency partners in the event of large aircraft incident.
“And it’s not every day we get to stand in front of an A380!,” he added.
