Expressions of interest (EOI) are now open for the CFA members interested in undertaking the Fireline Leadership course.

The expression of interest is open to all current Crew/Strike Team Leaders or those identified on the crew leader pathway.

Applications close at COB on Friday 14 February for all courses.

Courses are currently being held in two locations, Bacchus Marsh and Parkville, and will aim to move to other regional locations in 2025/2026.

The first two of the eight scheduled courses have already been run with 48 volunteers participating, who were nominated directly by their district.

The Fireline Leadership course is one of the best of its kind to support personal development, operational leadership and team leading skills.

Delivered by Jamie McKenzie AFSM from Red Flag Leadership, and supported by staff and volunteers, the courses utilise a blend of theoretical principles, real-world case studies, interactive classroom exercises, and practical field exercises.

This program empowers leaders to better prepare their teams for the demands of their roles and ultimately contribute to improved emergency response outcomes.

Conducted over two weekends, this 40-hour program is tailored to empower frontline leaders in honing essential leadership skills vital for nurturing resilient and unified crews.

This course has been identified as part of 2024-25 Annual Board Priorities, which includes the enhancement of training programs and to provide opportunities to develop crew and strike team leader capacity.

Many of our CFA’s current senior operational staff and volunteers have participated in Fireline and feedback delivers high praise to the outcomes achieved.

Eight courses have been scheduled for the 2024/2025 financial year and will provide more than 190 volunteer members with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and better prepare them in their operational leadership role of Crew or Strike Team Leader.
