Share your experience maintaining operational skills
We want to hear from our members about their experiences, challenges and expectations when it comes to maintaining their operational skills.
The Training team has started working on a Skills Maintenance Framework to ensure CFA members complete the right training at the right pace and regularly maintain core skills in a consistent way.
The Skills Maintenance Framework aims to:
- Define clear skills maintenance guidelines across CFA roles to make expectations clear and more consistent
- Develop a framework that aligns with training units of competency and our training pathways
- Provide a consistent framework for skills maintenance across brigades and regions
- Support operational readiness and member safety
- Provide a reliable and streamlined way to record skills maintenance through the Learning Hub
As part of this work, members were invited to complete a short survey to help us better understand their current experiences, challenges and expectations relating to skills maintenance.
This survey is now closed.
Survey feedback will be used to develop a draft framework, which will then be shared for further consultation and feedback.
“We want all members to have a consistent framework to refer to when assessing their level of skills and capability,” Operational Doctrine and Training DCO Rohan Luke said.
“Brigades across CFA do an outstanding job maintaining their operational skills and demonstrate strong commitment to ongoing training.
“However, there is currently no consistent, CFA-wide approach to how skills are maintained, assessed and recorded.
“Following the development of the framework, we will commence work on developing skills maintenance activities and aligning them with skills and training records in the Learning Hub.”
This project has been developed in response to AFAC recommendation 8: to develop criteria and guidelines for a CFA Skills Maintenance Framework that will provide clear and consistent criteria for skill maintenance and improve how skills maintenance is delivered across CFA.
