Training staff profile: Commander Chris Lamb
Meet Commander Chris Lamb
Name: Chris Lamb
Position: Commander – State Driving Department
Department/District: CFA HQ - Burwood
What is the most favourite aspect of working with your team members?
Since commencing in January 2026, the OD&T team has been very welcoming and the aspect I appreciate in working with the team is their ability to embrace the potential for innovation when it comes to training our members. It is great to work with a team that is happy to work with suggested improvements if it provides a benefit to the members.
What was the most interesting or rewarding project you have been involved in whilst working at CFA?
One project that has exceeded my expectations is the Driving Simulators. It is still in the early stages of development, but has the potential for the CFA to lead the nation in providing an innovative solution to improve the driving oath
List one (or more) thing/s you can't live without, when at work.
Most people I assume say coffee, but when I am completing admin tasks, you will generally find me listening to music.
Tell us about a hobby, interest or achievement you have that might surprise your colleagues?
I have played field hockey at a high level prior to becoming a firefighter and am now the head coach of my local club, the Torquay Tornados.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
My holidays are generally spent with my family hitting the slopes. So my next holiday overseas will be to a location where we can ski/snowboard. Japan was amazing, but I believe our next family holiday will be to hit the slopes of Europe in northern Italy or France.
What is your favourite way to unwind after a long day at work?
Either before or after work, I like to go for a swim in the ocean. It’s a great way to shut out the external noise and concentrate on your breath, all year round. This is generally followed by a sauna. I find this the best to switch off.
