Staff profile: Juanita Clifford
This month's Training staff profile features Juanita Clifford, a Business Coordinator for VEMTC.
What is your favourite aspect of working for CFA?
I love working within the training environment. I get to see firsthand the training activity which results from the inception or reinvigoration of a training package. I have a great team who collectively administrate the Training campuses. Through the dedication and hard work from all stakeholders involved, we ensure our members are fully prepared, educated and trained for practical events on the fireground. No two days are the same.
What’s the most interesting project you've worked on at the CFA?
Without sounding generic – I can’t pinpoint one. We don’t have projects that start and finish - our work is BAU ongoing. I am lucky to work within an environment that has loads of interesting days. I’ve been privy to CFA aerial appliance training, VICPOL dog training, DOJ prison training, riot training, terrorism training and ambulance training; I have also been present during CFA filming. There's so many Interesting stories that come out of the training grounds. Interesting drills lists, scenarios and left-of-field booking requests that question the imagination.
What is your background?
Previously to CFA (a long time ago) I worked in the banking industry as a ledger examiner. I’ve been with CFA now for 16 years. I started in the kitchen at Fiskville whilst I was rearing young children and then transitioned to the office when they went to school. I’ve always worked within the training environment in differing roles.
What’s a hobby or interest you have that might surprise your colleagues?
We live on a small farm Melbourne side of Ballarat. When I’m not wearing corporate clothes and working in the office, you’ll find me donning my old jeans and a shirt, driving around in a farm ute checking sheep and cattle, cooking for shearers, just enjoying being outside. At this time of year we are lambing, sometimes they need bottle feeding and warming up around the fire. Living in the country, being outdoors, listened to some good music and having a small sip around a hot fire is the best. The simple life is my perfect life.
What is one thing you can't live without at work?
Coffee ( I drink too much of it ) and background music of all differing genres.
If you could switch jobs with anyone in the world for a day, who would it be and why?
I would love to be the employee from “The Lott” who gets to make those phone calls to everyday people giving them the news that they’ve won!! Powerball, Lotto, Tatts – whatever. Their lives are from this minute going to change. How good would you feel being able to give that type of news?
