South East Region Planned Burn Forum at Licola 1-3 April 2022
The team ran some indoor TEWTs giving members the opportunity to write a burn plan using their skills learnt at the forum
Last weekend, 1 April to 3 April, Community Safety team members from South East Region hosted and facilitated a Planned Burn Forum.
Staff from the Vegetation Management team and the engagement team worked hard to develop an interactive forum to engage CFA volunteers about planned burning.
The forum hosted approximately 30 CFA volunteers from accross the region coming from various brigades and holding various roles within each brigade.
The key objective of the forum was to start conversations about planned burning and develop the skills of our members in this field.
Although the weather was not on our side, it did give us the opportiunity to run a series of indoor and ourdoor activities including sessions on:
- Lessons learned - case studies covering how important creating and testing a burn plan is.
- Burn planning and complexity ratings - where to start the conversations back at your districts.
- Hardardous trees.
- Cultural aspects and considerations when planning a burn and where to get support.
- Field technical tools.
- Planned burn TEWTs.
We received some great feedback from those that attended:
- "Thanks again to everyone involved in putting this event together."
- "Catering was fantastic, facilities were great. Presenters all knew there stuff."
- "Very informative and I will be trying to promote within our brigade and Casey group."
- "Catering was fantastic, beds very comfortable, great location, would have been better if the weather was kinder to us, but all in all, got heaps out of the weekend."
