Brigades now have access to a more streamlined and consistent approach to completing Section 29 inspections.

In the past year, Operational Performance and Capability has been improving how CFA carries out Section 29 inspections and manages brigade capability data.

One central location for tools and resources

A key change is the improvement of the standardised process for Section 29 inspections, supported by an enhanced training program and updated resources.

These are all now available in one central location via Members Online, making it easier for brigades to access what they need.

Creating greater standardisation of the process across the state means results can now be more easily compared, helping to identify capability gaps and target support where it’s needed most.

Brigade Operating Skills Profile now integrated

The Brigade Operating Skills Profile (BOSP) has also been reviewed and updated to ensure brigade skill requirements are up to date, relevant and aligned with current operational needs.

As part of this work, BOSP has been integrated into the Baseline Capability Profiling App (BCPA), creating a more unified and consistent system for analysing brigade capability and training needs.

The previous BOSP portal is being phased out and is planned for removal by the end of July 2026.

A new standard approach has also been introduced to give a consistent view of training gaps across the state. It sets capability targets based on CFA standards and risk, and groups brigades by class. Training needs are then calculated using factors such as vehicles, equipment, crewing ratios and shift requirements.

Importantly, the updated approach also captures leadership and specialist skills, providing a clearer, state-wide picture of capability.

Further enhancements are already underway, including the addition of skills specific to specialist brigades, groups, districts and regions.

These improvements represent an important step toward a more data-driven, consistent and transparent approach to understanding and supporting brigade capability across CFA.

Brigades needing access to the BCPA can find more information on Members Online.
