Regional visit builds understanding
A two-day visit to the south-west has given the Governance, Legal and Risk (GLR) team a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the region.
The visit was organised as part of a 'friendship' system where CFA senior leaders work together with regional DCOs to better understand local needs so they can assist in delivering the best possible service to their communities.
On the first day the team visited Mortlake Fire Station, hearing about the types of incidents and emergencies experienced in the region, volunteer membership as well as priorities for the short, medium and long term.

On the second day the group visited VEMTEC Penshurst to take on some skills training including learning how to bowl and connect hoses and how to put out fires using different types of extinguishers.

They also completed hot fire training and experienced what it was like to wear simulated BA in a confined space to contain a gas explosion.
General Manager Governance, Legal and Risk Paul Ramage said the visit allowed the team to gain a greater understanding of how their roles contributed to the bigger picture at CFA.
“It was a fantastic experience and an important reminder of how amazing CFA is as an organisation,” Paul said.
DCO South West Region Rohan Luke said the visit was a fantastic opportunity to build relationships with the team using local facilities in the South West Region.
“I’d like to thank all involved as everyone made a real effort to maximise the time together and learn more about our organisation,” Rohan said.
