Planned burn teamwork in the south-west

Effective teamwork ensured there was a successful start to planned burns in South West Region.

Before Christmas, CFA South West Region, with great support from the Planned Burn Task Force (PBTF) and local brigades, kicked off the planned burn season. Burns were completed at North Balmoral, Wingeel, Chatsworth, Pura, Wooriwyrite, Derrinallum and Lismore.

The teams covered a total of 180 kilometres of roadside (610ha) and 14 kilometres (29ha) of rail corridor. They used some of the Taskforce to help Kay Richardson in West Region carry out burns at Dundonnell and Nerrin.

The local communities and brigades were very thankful for the PBTF's assistance to get some extremely important and strategic fuel breaks in place during what is a busy harvest time for the area.

The South West Vegetation Management Team of Phil Campbell, Tanya Nagorcka and Phil O’Keefe would also like to thank the PBTF.

They still have many more burns over the next few months so stay tuned Taskforce members - the pagers will be sounding soon for more of your excellent service.
