ODT project team update

The OD&T project team continues to support CFA members to obtain their heavy vehicle licences with over 640 licences supported to date and further licences to be supported over the next two years, providing benefits through reduced administration and guaranteed training delivery standards.

Members are now able to save their vehicle licence data directly into Members Online, which assists in planning driving-related training delivery. Delivery of 10 new training trucks will allow members to have more access to vital training resources, delivering improved quality and quantity of driver training.

Three driver educator courses, including one specifically targeted at female drivers, have now been delivered with two additional courses to be scheduled, with work ongoing to lock in a further eight courses for our members over the next two years.

Given the amount of driver training that we need to deliver within this project, it's vital that we increase the number of driving educators and instructors and better use existing educators and instructors.

There are 42 class sets of digital tablets (12 tablets per set) currently being distributed across districts for candidates to support volunteer digital learning and assist in completing digital assessments.  In addition, we have already provided tablets to instructors, but we understand that not all of these are being fully used for training.

To better determine future support for instructors, we encourage all our instructors to complete this 30-second survey to provide important feedback about how digital tablets can best be used to deliver CFA training. Educator satchels for the revised General Firefighter course are on schedule to be delivered mid August. Satchels will be sent to districts for distribution and collection, closely followed by learner satchels and training hydrant stands to be available by the end of August 2024. Satchels will be sent to districts for distribution and collection.

OD&T has formalised contractual arrangements with Red Flag to deliver eight Fireline Leadership courses, coordinated by the OD&T and the L&D teams. Further communication will follow on course scheduling and candidate prioritisation.

In addition to Fireline Leadership, we are finalising a series of Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWT) maps developed for various leadership roles, including sector command, strike team/command leaders, and operational incident management teams. Courses continue to be refined and updated.
