There is still time to recognise an outstanding CFA member by nominating them for the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) as part of the 2027 Australia Day Honours.

Nominations for this round close 1 May 2026.

The AFSM is the highest honour in the Australian fire services, recognising members who have demonstrated meritorious service in hazardous circumstances.

It acknowledges current serving members who have spent significant time on the frontline and shown a sustained commitment to protecting the community.

Members may be considered for an AFSM if they:

  • Are current serving members (within two years) who work on the frontline with prolonged exposure to hazard
  • Use their frontline knowledge and experience to train or educate others
  • Have made a significant, distinguished or outstanding contribution to CFA and the broader community
