New FLAIM Virtual Reality Kits
CFA members can now access the next generation of FLAIM Virtual Reality (VR) kits - advanced training tools that combine virtual reality with physical components to simulate real firefighting conditions.
The new upgraded kits are easier to use, more portable and designed specifically for training, building on the success of earlier versions already used within CFA.
While they currently offer fewer scenarios, they provide a highly-immersive and realistic experience to support both skills maintenance and skills acquisition.
Each kit includes:
- VR headset and iPad with training scenarios
- Haptic fire hose nozzle and hose reel
- Breathing Apparatus cylinder and face mask for enhanced simulation.
- Heat vest for thermal realism
The VR kits allow CFA members to train safely and effectively, with group observation supported by a screen.
Members can access training locally at their brigade, build confidence through realistic hands-on practice without the risks, support both skills maintenance and skills acquisition, achieving all this through environmentally-friendly training.
Skills Maintenance scenarios include hay shed fire, petrol station fire and house – protecting assets, while Skills Acquisition scenarios in development include Suppress Wildfire and Class A foam application, with more scenarios to be added over time.
CFA members should visit Members Online for all information on the kits.
