Invitation to participate in the 2023 torchlight procession
The torchlight procession at the 2022 CFA/VFBV State Fire Brigade Championships was an outstanding success, with several thousand people watching members of CFA brigades march through the streets of Shepparton in March 2022.
Torchlight processions are an important part of CFA history and culture.
The first torchlight parade was in 1873 during the first demonstration of Victoria's fire services to the public. Torchlight processions have continued to be a feature of Urban Championships since that time.
With the combining of the Urban and Rural State Championships, the torchlight procession continues to be an important feature of the Championships program.
CFA encourages all brigades to come to Shepparton and march on Saturday 25 March 2023 and add to the spectacle of the procession and help to showcase CFA to the people of Shepparton.
You do not have to be a competing brigade at the Championships to march in the procession. CFA plaques will be awarded to the first three placegetters.
Any brigade not competing at the Championships that would like to march in the procession should contact Peter Davis (p.davis@cfa.vic.gov.au or 0458 933 797) no later than Friday 17 March 2023.
