Tawonga Fire Brigade members recently took part in CFA’s free Health Watch program that supports the health, safety and performance of its volunteers.

Brigade Health and Safety Coordinator Bruce Howie said that 15 members took part in the program.

“The intention of holding a Health Watch session was to increase brigade members’  awareness of their current health and empower them to take action to best manage their health outcomes,” Bruce said.

The heart health check can include blood lipid profiles, glucose levels, blood pressure and heart rate.

Some members had their issues explained to them and the health adviser suggested they contact their doctor as a precaution.

Members thought the program was worthwhile, with some of the comments being “great for a small rural brigade, “wonderful service”, “I received really good and relevant information” and “I would encourage other brigades to take up the Health Watch program".

The health services team can be contacted by emailing healthwatch@cfa.vic.gov.au for more information about this worthwhile program.

“The health adviser was very helpful and carried out the assessments in a professional manner which we appreciated,” Bruce said.
