Have Your Say - new Children's Fire Safety Education Program in development

CFA's well-loved Fire Safe Kids program was developed in 2011. Now it's time for a new chapter in children's fire safety education.

Aimed at pre-primary and primary school students, Fire Safe Kids teaches important fire safety messages and encourages students and their families to reduce the risk of fire inside and outside their homes.

Fire Safe Kids has been responsible for educating thousands of students over the past decade, thanks to the tireless efforts of CFA members engaging with their local schools and presenting the program each year.

Although some recent updates have been made, the program has remained essentially unchanged since it was created. Since then, the demands placed on teachers and CFA brigades have increased, while the ways of engaging with young people have changed dramatically.

As part of the redevelopment process, the Community Engagement team is asking educators, families and CFA members to contribute their perspectives about fire safety education, as we work towards creating a new and modern program.

We have just launched our new Engage CFA page, and we encourage all members to visit the site and sign up for project updates.

The site includes three surveys - one for educators, one for families of children aged between four and 10 years and one for CFA members who are or would like to be involved in children's fire safety education. We encourage you to share these surveys with educators and families to help us hear a wide range of perspectives. These surveys close on 31 August.

The redevelopment will begin by focusing on the service delivery model. We will review the survey results and develop models with working groups. We will also work with consultative groups to ensure the new program fits within organisational capacity.
