Staff are invited to express their interest in joining CFA’s Peer Support Team – a group of dedicated staff who provide confidential mental health and wellbeing support to their colleagues.

Our Corporate Peer Team is made up of staff from a range of roles, trained to support their colleagues through personal or work-related challenges and guide them toward appropriate support services when needed.

As a Peer, you will:

  • Provide a listening ear and practical support to colleagues.
  • Help normalise conversations around mental health.
  • Connect members to relevant services where appropriate.
  • Be part of a respected, supportive team making a real difference across CFA.

As someone people naturally turn to for support, District 9 District Support Officer Debra Martin said the peer training gave her the skills to have more effective conversations with those in need - whether at work or in her personal life.

"I really enjoy being there for others. It’s incredibly rewarding to help someone who’s struggling or just needs someone to listen,” she said.

"If you’re interested in becoming a peer, I encourage you to put your hand up. You’ll not only get the chance to support others, but you’ll also connect with a great group of like-minded colleagues from across CFA."

Environment Manager Adam King said the Peer Support Program was about people helping people.

"If you care and want to support others, you already have what it takes," he said.

"Being a Corporate Peer means showing up, listening, and helping to build a culture of care at CFA - one conversation at a time."

Express your interest

Expressions of Interest are invited from staff employed under the Professional, Technical and Administrative, District Mechanical Officer and Tower Overseer enterprise agreements, including those on contracts, to join our 2026 intake.

If successful through the EOI process, prospective Corporate Peers undergo extensive training and assessment in CFA’s Peer Support Model and Psychological First Aid. Corporate Peers are further supported by experienced Peers and the Organisational Wellbeing Team.

If you are enthusiastic about volunteering to support your colleagues or to find out more about the Corporate Peer role, expectations or the process to become a Peer, visit Members Online or email PeerCoordinator.Corporate@cfa.vic.gov.au

EOIs close Wednesday 31 December 2025, with interviews with shortlisted staff planned for early 2026.
