Emergency Management Commissioner visits West Region
Emergency Management Commissioner Rick Nugent toured some parts in the west of the state, stopping in at the Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre (VEMTC) Central Highlands Campus in Ballan, among other CFA locations in District 15.
Commissioner Nugent visited several CFA sites in West Region to meet with volunteers and learn about facilities in the area. He was joined by Deputy Chief Officers Brett Boatman and Rohan Luke, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Lachlan Redman, Commander Chris Bigham, Acting Commander Wayne Martin and Group General Manager Strategic Services Robyn Harris.
Visiting the VEMTC Central Highlands Training Campus, the group had a walking tour of the centre, where they observed the state-of-the-art facilities available to our volunteers.
The group then headed to the Blackwood Community Fire Refuge, where they met with Blackwood Fire Brigade Captain Ross Hall.
Ending their day with a tour of Trentham Fire Station, the Commissioner met with Captain Paul Healy to discuss proposed station upgrades. The group was joined by brigade members from Blackwood and Trentham brigades, crews in trucks from Daylesford Fire Brigade (who brought their rescue vehicle) and Creswick Fire Brigade members.
The tour was a fantastic way to show the Commissioner some of the ways our brigades are training and developing to protect their communities.
