CFA’s first Community Safety Brigade recently elected its second Brigade Management Team.

Incoming Captain Bruce Jewell said he was looking forward to continue building on the strong foundations established over the past two years.

“I am very excited to carry on the great work our brigade has done. The foundations have been laid, and with an experienced and dedicated team, we will continue to move forward and support the great community safety work brigades across the region are already doing,” Bruce said

The brigade’s sole focus is supporting community engagement activities across South East Region. It has 42 members, supporting the work of 223 brigades throughout the region.

Outgoing Captain Paul Webster said he was extremely proud of the brigade’s achievements since its registration in October 2023.

“We have attended more than 50 events in our first two years, including brigade open days, community markets and events, Fire Wise Kids sessions, Property Advice Visit Services, Smoke Alarm Installation Service, group exercises, Australia Day Government House celebrations, Good Friday Appeal Kids Day Out, Emergency Services Foundation days, Phillip Island MotoGP, the Airshow, expos and more,” Paul said.

Community engagement is core business and plays a vital role in saving lives each year by focusing on prevention and preparedness. Through conversations, events, activities, program and service delivery, the brigade works with local brigades to help community members reduce fire risk and plan for emergencies.

Members take part in community engagement training to strengthen their foundational fire knowledge, expand their capability to deliver fire‑safety programs and services, and develop the skills needed to support community members in recognising their personal and local fire risks and preparing effectively.

The brigade welcomes new members and opportunities to support community engagement activities across South East Region.
