CFA is proud to be a member of Women and Firefighting Australasia (WAFA), an organisation dedicated to advocating for and empowering women across the fire management sector in Australia and New Zealand

CFA has previously held membership with WAFA, and we are delighted to have renewed this important partnership.

WAFA is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run board made up of passionate people who work or volunteer in the sector. With 12 board members from eight different agencies across Australasia, WAFA works to improve equity, inclusion, and professional opportunities for women in fire management. Importantly, WAFA is open to everyone – men as well as women – who want to contribute to a more inclusive and supportive sector.

"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the Victorian Country Fire Authority (CFA) into the WAFA community as an organisational member," President of WAFA Quinn Cramer said.

"Their commitment to supporting and empowering women in the fire management sector aligns with our core values. Together, we hope to continue to strengthen the role of women in the sector, ensuring that we’re fostering an environment that is inclusive, supportive and empowering for all members."

Quinn Cramer explained WAFA’s mission.

"At WAFA, our mission is to be the leading voice for women in the fire management sector, advocating for gender equity, fostering professional growth, and creating a supportive environment for women. Our vision is to amplify the voices and lived experiences of women in this field, working closely with agencies to ensure that every woman in the fire management sector has the opportunity to reach her full potential.

"Through every partnership and collaboration, including with CFA, we are working to create a more inclusive and equitable fire management community across Australasia."

What CFA’s organisational membership means

As part of CFA’s membership, all CFA members can access:

  • discounted tickets to WAFA’s biennial conference
  • WAFA’s quarterly newsletter, which will be shared internally through CFA channels
  • complimentary access to WAFA’s online speaker series (registration links will be provided for each event)
  • Sector-wide recognition that CFA is committed to diversity and supporting women who work and volunteer across the organisation.

Why this matters

CFA’s membership with WAFA demonstrates our commitment to building a more inclusive and supportive fire services community. By connecting with WAFA, CFA members – both women and men – can benefit from professional development opportunities, learn from inspiring speakers, and be part of a broader movement to strengthen equity across the sector.

If you’d like to learn more about WAFA look at their website and follow them on Instgram, Facebook and Linkedin.
