CFA volunteers and staff are invited to express their interest in expanding their skills in aviation, with Expressions of Interest now open for the 2026 Aviation intake.

This year, applications are open to members interested in both Ground Aviation and Airborne Aviation roles. Both streams require a commitment to a comprehensive, accelerated training pathway.

Members who successfully complete the training may have opportunities to progress into more advanced aviation roles within their chosen stream.

Aviation continues to play an important role in fire and emergency response across Victoria.

“Many members will have worked alongside aircraft and crews on the fireground, particularly over the past summer,” Commander Aviation John Katakouzinos AFSM said.

“Behind every aircraft operation is a dedicated team ensuring safe, effective and coordinated responses - both in the air and on the ground.

“Following the successful Air Observer selection process in 2024, Ground Aviation roles have now been incorporated into the 2026 intake, providing more opportunities for members to get involved.

“If you’ve got a passion for aviation and a commitment to learning, this is your chance to build new skills and contribute to CFA in a new way.”

Members interested in expressing their interest can find further information, including position descriptions and the selection process, on the Aviation EOI page via Members Online.

Applications close 8pm, Sunday 10 May 2026.
