Can you support the biggest food drive on the planet?
Foodbank the largest hunger relief charity in Australia, needs help from the community and community groups to restock its shelves to continue to provide meals to 69,000 people every day.
This August Foodbank is calling on everyone to support the biggest food drive on the planet.
Can you, your brigade or district office contribute?
Hit the supermarket or organise a food drive and drop off your collections to the Foodbank Warehouse at 4/2 Sommerville Road, Yarraville on 16 and 17 August between 10am and 3pm.
Fill the field command vehicle (FCV) or truck with donated, non-perishable food items and head down to Somerville where a team of Foodbank volunteers will help unload the donated goods.
This year Foodbank is looking for any of the following staple items including pasta, pasta sauce, tuna, rice, cereal, UHT milk, canned veggies and fruit. Donations must be unopened, in their original packaging with full ingredient and allergen listing, and within their best before date.
Your contribution will make a huge difference in feeding hungry people.
Last year crews from Bulla and Hastings brigades heard the call and rallied their members and communities, collecting vital non-perishable food donations for those in need.
Hastings Fire Brigade collected a wealth of non-perishable food items at their station within a week of putting out the call.
Supplies were loaded into the FCV, and firefighters Jonathan Rendell and Catriona Harding made the trip up to Foodbank's Yarraville facility to deliver the goods.
The Bulla community also delivered in response to the call out, with Bulla brigade members dropping off 51 bags of groceries to the Yarraville collection point.
