Call for stories and memorabilia as FEM marks 80 years

The Fire Equipment Maintenance (FEM) team is inviting brigade members – past and present – to help bring its history to life ahead of its 80th celebrations.

This year marks 80 years since Fire Equipment Maintenance was first delivered by CFA brigades.

A special celebration lunch is set to take place in August, with details to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

However, the anniversary is about more than just the event, it’s an opportunity to capture and preserve the history of FEM and the members behind its success.

“In the lead up to the lunch, we’re calling on brigades and individuals to dig into their collections and contribute historical material,” Industry Fire Prevention Manager Leigh Marsh said.

“From old photographs and documents to uniforms and patches; even the smallest items could help paint a richer picture of FEM’s journey over the past 80 years.

We are also looking for historical information - we know brigades and members have so much information, memorabilia and other items tucked away.”

Members are also encouraged to share how FEM has supported their brigade and shaped their service to their communities, including how it has supported fundraising for vital appliances and equipment.

“Every story and piece of memorabilia will play a role in preserving FEM’s history and making our 80th celebrations a success,” Leigh added.

Submissions can be sent via email to fem@cfa.vic.gov.au

Members are asked to include their contact details. As a token of appreciation, those who provide material will receive a historical patch for their collection (while supplies last).
