Get ready for Get Fire Ready - New community engagement training for members

To support members to get ready for this season’s Get Fire Ready campaign, the Community Capability team is pleased to launch an updated Introduction to Community Engagement eLearning module, designed to help members strengthen their ability to support and connect with their local communities.

 

Community engagement is one of the most important ways CFA members help Victorians stay safe from fire. Whether it's a conversation at a local event, a brigade open day, a property advice visit, or sharing key fire safety messages, every interaction can make a difference.

In the module, Chief Officer Jason Heffernan reinforces that preparedness and community engagement are a fundamental part of CFA's operational role. Helping communities understand local risks and take responsibility for their own safety is essential to reducing the impact of fires across the state.

Why complete the training?

The updated self-paced module on the Learning Hub provides a practical introduction to community engagement and its vital role in reducing fire risk and improving community preparedness. The module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and is relevant for all CFA members, regardless of their role or experience.

Members will learn:

  • What community engagement means at CFA
  • Why engagement is critical to achieve CFA's operational outcomes
  • How to identify local risks and understand the needs of different community groups
  • Ways to incorporate community engagement into brigade activities
  • The range of CFA programs and services available to support communities
  • Where to access resources, tools and support for engagement activities.

The module also reinforces the importance of planning as a brigade and tailoring engagement activities to meet the unique needs of each community. By combining local knowledge with CFA programs, services and activities, members can help communities make informed decisions and get ready for the upcoming fire season.
