Friends cluster together to celebrate

Two local fire brigades that work and train closely together celebrated together on Friday 7 August.
Pound Creek and Tarwin Lower & District brigades celebrated years of service at the Tarwin Lower River View Hotel. The two brigades often train together as a cluster and their locations mean they often support each other on the fireground.
“Whether in response to fires and incidents, or supporting the brigades' viability through administrative contributions, the selfless contribution of time is highly valued and respected,” District 9 Commander Andrew McCartney said at the presentation.
“I'm grateful to be part of the celebration of service and also the celebration of what has been a vast amount of achievements by both brigades.
“I have great respect and admiration for how your brigades perform as individual entities, whilst always exploring ways to serve communities better by combining efforts and sharing resources.”
A highlight of the evening was a 55 year CFA Life Membership medal presented to Pound Creek member Ken Harris, who joined Pound Creek Fire Brigade on 7 December 2012. He has held many leadership positions across his volunteer career, including communications officer, 1st and 2nd lieutenant and brigade training officer.
Other medal presentations were made to: Tarwin Lower & District: Tim Carr (10 years), Rod Hill (10 years), Jim Barr (15 years), Mel Meade (15 years); Pound Creek: Peter McFarlane (20 years), Tania Campbell (20 years), Peter Davis (30 years), Stewart Malcom (30 years), Ken Harris (55 years and CFA Life Membership).
