More than 100 brigade management team (BMT) members and staff came together at Colac Performing Arts and Cultural Centre last Sunday (26 July) for the District 6 2026 Brigade Management Team Forum.

The forum gave brigade leaders the opportunity to connect with others from across the district, hear from subject matter experts and explore practical ideas they can take back to support their brigades.

Across the day, attendees were able to choose from 15 sessions covering practical areas such as brigade finance and administration, developing local brigade procedures, training and operational capability, health and safety leadership, resolving volunteer issues early and preparing communities for fire. An expo area also provided the opportunity to speak with a range of CFA functions and learn about the support available to brigades.

The forum was designed to provide practical information that BMTs can apply in their own brigades, while also giving members the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and learn from the experiences of others facing similar challenges.

Feedback from the day highlighted the value of bringing BMTs together, with attendees describing the forum as worthwhile, well organised and helpful. They also appreciated the variety of topics on offer.

One newly appointed BMT member said the forum had provided them with "the fundamentals for a newly-selected BMT member", while another simply commented, "highly valued forum – keep doing."

The forum reinforced the importance of creating opportunities for BMTs to come together, share ideas and strengthen the knowledge and leadership capabilities of brigade leaders across the district.
